The Flower Power stem cutter is the only tool
specially designed to trim your flower stems
at the optimum angle of 45 degrees
without damaging the stem's ability
to draw in water and nutrients.
Flower Power Tips for extending the life of your cut flowers:
Plan to buy flowers as early in the day as possible and avoid exposing them to heat on the drive home. Treat the purchase of flowers as you would ice cream: complete your shopping and leave the flowers until last, then get them home without delay. If possible, keep the stems immersed in water at all times.
Fill a clean vase with about 10 cm of water. Cut the stems slightly longer than necessary, using shears or scissors. Then, use the Flower Power stem cutter for the final trim. The precise 45 degree cut exposes the maximum surface area to essential water and nutrients. Cut and trim under water, if possible, or under a running tap. Once trimmed, immediately immerse the stems in luke-warm water, which rises up the stem faster than cold. Remove any foliage that will be immersed below the water level, to prevent rotting.
Add a packet of cut flower food to the vase. You can make your own with 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp bleach, and 2 tsp lemon juice. Sugar provides nutrition, bleach kills bacteria, and the citric acid in lemon juice lowers the pH - flowers prefer slightly acidic water.
Do not place flowers near a fruit bowl. Fruits such as apples and bananas produce ethylene gas which is harmful to cut flowers. Also, keep your flowers out of direct sunlight and away from warm electrical appliances.
Use the Flower Power stem cutter every other day, to trim off a further 1 - 2 cm, before immediately submerging the stems in fresh water. This will ensure that the vascular system of your flowers remains free of bacteria and clear to absorb the vital water and nutrients.
